Yup, was sitting at work today and fired up the laptop, dosbox and OMF. And had this idea, "Hey, lets try learning to play Katana!" and then started FILE0001 REC, so I could record this.

The result, is that I picked up a couple of games that I found funny, silly, frustrating, just showcasing how bad I am at playing Katana, some cases of pure genius AI play, and some downright NASTY cpu blocking skills!

These are a sample of various games I played today while trying to learn how to handle the Katana, and remember that I have to quit the game to rename the last.rec, so I don't think I even once completed 1player today.

Was inspired by something Crusher the Jaguar told me, about people racing to complete a game first. Naturally I couldn't do just that without anyone to race, but decided to try to make a speed run instead.

Settings are: Ultimate difficulty, Hyper and Rehit mode on, Speed set to slowest, One round. I started capturing from the first VS screen starts loading until I got the blackout/news screen starting on the last fight.

About the AI and Katana:

As I've no doubt pestered you all with, I've been playing a bit of Katana lately to learn to use it. And it is an amazingly tricky bot to learn for me, the AI is actually playing surprisingly hard against it.

In-fact I've never in my life seen the CPU block this much, and accurate before ?

A guess: The AI was developed once for all the bots, thus it works identical for all the bots. Also against bots. This would then mean that the AI is programed to react to attacks at a certain range, but doesn't adjust this range to the robot it is fighting against ?

If this is true then long range attacks (Nova's punch for example) becomes better, and any medium to close range attacks becomes worse (pretty much everything the katana got).

Well, the short and the long of it, the AI is proving to be a much greater challenge to me than it has ever been before, and I think this is because the bots I've traditionally played against the AI (Nova, Jaguar, Gargoyle) are good against the AI, and the AI have trouble with dealing with them. Neither of those has ever given me this problem with super blocking etc.

And now that I'm trying to learn to play a bot that actually fall within the AI's expected perimeters, I'm finding that the AI is actually giving me a good run for the money! Actually, it is wiping its feet in my blood, ehr oil.

Musings: I am again impressed by the AI's general level. If given a proper chance it can give good players a run for their money, as long as they don't exploit the AI weakness.
