I uninstalled winamp3 and installed winamp2.91, which takes up 15 mb of memory. Sad

Edit: ok, I restarted it, and it now takes 2mb

Wow yes Winamp 2.91 is great. Stable, low memory usage (2mbish! wow! beats STP!) I am just so very used to the skins of winamp 3 now i misss them! MMD3 was my favourite too... loved that skin!

Winamp 2.91 remains til Winamp 5 (or whatever) is released and DOESN'T crash on my PC

<edit>I've had Video on winamp since the days of yore! it was a 3rd party plugin which worked wonders - was as good as winamp 3's video if not better</edit>

There's a 2.91 now? I better... do nothing. Maybe I'll get it when I feel like updating my media player. Meanwhile, anyone care to fill me in on the changes from 2.81?

New default skin? Sounds like the number one reason for me to get 2.91 and look at it for a second and then put back the skin I use now :T

In all seriousness, I will get 2.91 probably.

then winamp still wins b/c it uses less memory, and can minimize to system tray.
WMP9 also has a Minimized Systray Function!

Yeah but like the man says, it ALSO uses less memory.

I think the ultimate solution to this problem is simple. Although I am a winamp user myself, Windows Media clearly wins in the features section hands down (unless you waste time getting 1000's of plugins for winamp). The simple solution to the memory problem is for all of you to stop being so cheap and go buy some ram

But... if you dont need/want/care about all the fancy crap windows media has, winamp is the way to go. (oh yeah theres some crappy one called realplayer out there, has anyone ever used that one? )

good. now can someeone tell me how the **** I use this "system tray minimize" feature? I just looked everywhere for 5 minutes and still couldn't find it.

besides, WMP doesn't let me rip CDs to MP3 format. it suggested some utilites that cost money. that's useful. is there any way for WMP to rip CDs to MP3 format for free? because if there is, I might just give it a chance

media player is a content rights protective software. It won't support ripping to mp3 because that promotes sharing of copywrited materials over the internet. It's still the best free audio/video complete software out there IMHO.
