I hope that OMF:BG redefines the genre term "fighting game".

I think that after this people will not call it a 3D-over shoulder fighting game....

They will call BG a true fighting game, and will call all those 2.5D fighters "side-scrolling fighters"

just my $0.02

edit: "Tex Atomic's Big Bot Battles" has no melee combat and in all production and gameplay values is intensely crappy. I didn't just uninstall that demo, I called a "cleaner" and an exorcist.

OMF redefining the genre... VF2 didn't redefine the genre as a "true fighting game", and it was 3D (although only some characters could sidestep). Even VF3's full-3D arenas and SC's 8-way run didn't make them the "true" fighting games, because the true fighting game is still the first decent fighting game (SF2). Even if BG is a monstrous success despite all odds, it will simply have defined a new subgenre, the MULTIPLAYER fighting game (since 3D was already there, but "turn right 30 degrees" is unnecessary in a two-player fighter).

I'm glad to see that Steel Claw is back. And apparently, in the future, cyborgs will be fans of trepanation.

Umm, which menu do you like? The one here on the MB, or the one on the gamespy preview.

I sure hope the one here on the MB. It's cool. I could live with it

From the screenshot on gamespy, it looks like a lot of the old characters are gone. Are they gone for good, or just not made yet?

Yeah, most of the 2097 characters aren't in the HAR fighting business anymore. We have confirmation of Milano, Ibrahim, Steffan, Steel Claw and Jaquoline, and there's probably more coming.
