It seems most of my computer problems are comming from a voltage discrepency in my 3.3 range. I'm gonna buy a new psu regardless but I am kind of curious as to what the 3.3 range is for since most non-computer related psu only have a 12v and 5v range.

the 3.3v rail is for all the little chips and things that make up the mother board.

so yeah, it's probably the most important one...

I believe the CPU also uses power from the 3.3V line, I'm pretty sure memory modules are 3.3V as well. So if you had a problem there, that would explain a lot :p

I just got a new PSU as well, old one screwed up when the fan stopped working one night, then I fixed the fan while it was still running and all the melted glue flew all around... It still worked with reduced power output for a while :p
