That tiny little stick probably costs more than my entire PC

I've seen a motherboard with 16 slots for ram, imagine that company making a motherboard with the same number of slots for the 8 gig ram. (8X16=128 gigs)

That's so utterly useless. Once you get into the 2 gig range, anything you do is way more CPU limited then RAM limited, unless the process makes absolute liberal use of memory for anything and everything.

Also if you have so much ram would virtual memory be unnessesary?

In most cases you can do away with virtual memory if you have 2GB of RAM and running WinXP (or, if you don't play many recent games, 1GB)... if you run WinXP x64 (or, like me, the x64 Vista beta), you may want to up that to 4GB (or 2GB if you're in the 1GB category earlier).

Multi core CPUs aren't goign to save you all that much. I mean, you can't disregard the sheer power of having a million CPUs, or even one with hyperthreading, but in reality very few applications know how to take advantage of the paralell uninterrupted processing power. We all talked about this some months back. More lies in the hands of the programmer then the hardware at this stage.
