Okay,

Iīm reallysick and tired of my vid card, so I want to get a new one. Nothing too fancy, but I want to play the newer games with some decent settings.
But I really donīt have any clue which vid card I should buy!

My budget is about 120 euroīs, and I donīt have a PCI slot...(I think).

What are your suggestions?

Rad9800XT

But personally I'd wait till the end of July when the DX10 cards will be announced.

And will those be within my budget? I tempt to assume that new cards are always above this price...

No, they won't be, which is why I posted it as an aside note.

Rad9800XT should be down in your price range by now though... I didn't check.

In that price range, I'd honestly recommend a GeForce 6600GT, which goes for about $100 in the States, so they should be around 120 euro there. They come in both PCI Express and AGP versions, so this might be a route to consider.

If Shader Model 3.0 support isn't a big deal, then the 9800XT is a great choice (might be able to pick one up for 80 euro, 128MB versions sell for under $70 here), as is the Radeon X1600XT (although the AGP versions are out of your budgetary range... PCI versions are about $89 here, AGP are about $169).

I'm having a hard time finding a 9800XT for sale here... Is it new?

I'll check some more sites tomorrow, now it's time for a nap!

It's 3 years old. I hope I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, it's roughly three years old now. May be impossible to find apart from places online.

I'd go for the GeForce 6600 GT as well.

http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/productDetails.html?artno=JAGS18&

I have a similar one (tho with less mem iirc) and can play oblivion good enough for me, I also couldn't find the 9800 on alternate (if it's not there I guess it just isn't for sale anymore)
I also saw some http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/productDetails.html?artno=JAGS55& but I don't know how good these are, but it's about you price range.

on nvidia: http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/productDetails.html?artno=J9GL33&

The 9600XT's an ancient card anymore... not to mention it's really only a decent match against a 128MB GeForce 6600 non-GT (the GT is roughly twice as fast).

128MB is a bit low of memory, but the 6600GT is a good card, and especially at that price.

You don't really need 256MB on a GeForce 6600GT. It would hardly ever be able to use all that memory and still run a game at a decent frame rate.

Even my 6600 non-GT makes use of having 256MB for stuff like Quake 4 (which does run at a good framerate at high detail). Also comes in handy for running UT2k4 with 4xAA (which is well within the range of feasibility for a 6600 of any stripe). It's not unnecessary by any stretch of the imagination, and, in the case of the 6600GT, the prices are practically identical. If you can get a 128MB one for that price, that's pretty good, but I'd still take a 256MB card since the price difference between such on most nVidia cards is negligible. Granted, I don't know if that's the case for AGP parts.
