I get this error every time I run the demo. Is this a bug, or is my box not set up correctly? I have the latest updates for WinXP... |

First off make sure you have the newest directx, then if that doesn't work tell us what video card you're running. |

"Intel(R) 82845G /GL/GE/PE/GV Controller"
That's what my System Information has in it.
Edit: Sorry for my slow response. |

The Intel 845 integrated video controller, as far as I know, lacks the features needed to run One Must Fall: Battlegrounds. However, make sure that you are running DirectX 9.0a or newer first, then, if it still doesn't work, you'd have to look into getting a new video card. If your motherboard actually has a video card slot, I would look into getting something like a Radeon 9600XT video card, which should be both inexpensive and will allow you to play Battlegrounds hassle-free. _________________ Official forum economist. I had installed DirectX 10 Prior to my last post, but I apparently for got to mention that. What other minimum system requirements are there? I don't believe my laptop has a video card slot, and I didn't see the system requirements on the site.
So, I would probably have to upgrade the processor, memory and video card in my desktop (which is slow like syrup), as well as add a second hard drive. I'm lucky to already have the hard drive, but I will have to purchase the other stuff, most likely.
Also, I should probably mention that I really appreciate the help, since I do. |

DirectX 10 is for Windows Vista only, right? _________________ "The unofficial first person to edit their sig since 2009! Possibly 2008."

I'm pretty sure Microsoft isn't quite dumb enough to allow a Windows XP install of DirectX 10 for Vista.
Edit: I could be wrong, though. |

I almost wonder if there are any issues with running Battlegrounds in Windows Vista... try Compatibility Mode first, and I'll try to boot into Vista Business somewhere in the next day or two, install BG again, and see if I can get anything to work on my end. _________________ Official forum economist. *is confused*
I'm running Windows XP, which I thought I made clear.
Anyway, if OMF:BG uses any 16-bit Operations, I guarantee it will crash in Vista, as Vista only supports 32- and 64-bit operations.
Edit: I just realized you may not have been writing to me... |

Ah... I got confused there as well... even still, should be something I should test.
If you have the latest version of DirectX (which, for XP, is 9.0c), the most recent Intel chipset drivers (I would check your laptop manufacturer's website for those), and it still doesn't work, then the 845's integrated video doesn't support the Hardware Transform and Lighting needed to handle the 3D rendering the game uses.
I forgot what the requirements for BG are off the top of my head, but here's what I would list as a good recommended specs to run the game with minimal hassles:
1.8 GHz Pentium 4, Athlon XP 1700+, or better
384MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti4400, Radeon 9700 Pro, or better
Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003 _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

Well, I have good news, and I have laughable news.
Good news: Since I have discovered that I have the most up-to-date drivers and DirectX on that laptop, I actually broke down and built myself a new gaming computer tower, with all of the system reccomendations exceeded in every way.
Laughable news: Having finished my new box, I plug everything in and... Oops! The default graphics card, which was the only of the two cards I don't need an adaptor for my monitor for, turns out to be overriden by my Radeon X850 XT graphics card. So, I will probably play tonight after I buy that DVI Male/VGA Female Adaptor. |

Well, in case it helps anybody with a problem similar to the one in the first post...
Try reinstalling the game. I recently had this problem on my computer with one of the installs I have of the game, but the install I use for my dedicated server worked perfectly fine. I uninstalled the copy I was having trouble with, reinstalled the game, and it's working just fine now.
Wish I knew why that error came up though... _________________ [Elite] pilot of the Force Flying Circus

I had tried omf on vista before. From my experience, almost all of it worked (although I didn't test it very thoroughly). The only problem I had was typing in any text boxes. _________________ I wish I still had some jag rolls |
