They're estimating July 31 now.

Knowing Blizzard, that seems incredibly optimistic.

Actually... today Blizzard announced the release date as July 27th.

Yeah, I was shocked by that, too... I was expecting September or October, personally.

The $60 price tag, sadly, I was not shocked by.

However, I have been looking into the game a bit more, and I'm kinda interested to see what people can come up with in the new editor... might make a worthwhile purchase once some mods are out in the wild Smile

Release date 5 months after the beta test beginning for Craft games is pretty typical for Blizzard. Beta usually ends about a month before release.

Starcraft 2 is releasing 2 weeks from today. Who's investing into this chapter of SC?

I'm going to wait to see what the mod community comes up with. By then, the inevitable Starcraft 2 Battle Chest will likely be out, saving me a lot of hassle and money.

I have a feeling that the SC2 battle chest is going to be like... $100+ (including the zerg and protoss chapters)

(Yeah, yeah, you all know where I stand on the matter)

Just liked KR's idea on this, is what I would have done in a similar situation.

Yeah, I'm starting to take a more patient approach to a lot of game releases... I used to do that pretty well, but in recent years I've kinda slipped on that, and have gotten burned by dropping day-one-release coin on some pretty crappy titles. Now I'm letting a handful of releases slip and seeing what I can get around to a couple of months later from an improved financial situation for significantly less money.

I end up doing the same for my three reasons of: 1: Cheaper, 2: it will be done patched and problems identified with solutions online, and 3: I can afford a computer that can play them or get the console cheap if I don't already have it.

I'm a cheap, but patient, bastard.

Yeah I've screwed around with the editor a bit in beta, and wow is it capable... if the community uses even a portion of its potential, there should be some pretty interesting stuff

I'm gonna miss the large variety of unit models that the Warcraft 3 editor offered though, due to NPC chars (creeps and such)

no doubt you're able to add your own models though. Plus it sounds like there's going to be new renditions of old units (ie. medic, firebat) in the single player campaign, definitely available for the editor.

and even with no new models, you can still make things like the Uberlisk

Just a quick observation I made about a trend in Blizzard games...

In Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Diablo1&2, there's a hero that ends up being super evil in the end...

Starcraft has Sarah Kerrigan -> Infested Kerrigan
Warcraft 3 has Paladin Arthas -> Death Knight Arthas
and... Diablo 1's hero (the player's character) ends up being the wanderer (and later turns into Diablo) in Diablo 2.

Has anyone played through the storyline of Warcraft 1 or 2? Do either have something similar to this model?

Don't recall to much from warcraft 1 any longer, warcraft 2, not so much. you had one of the human dukes change team to the orcs, but he got annihilated in couple of maps. you had some infighting in orcs, but nothing of the same scale.

Basically I recon it is more of blizard taking stuff from warhammer, as warhammer always tried to be dark and evil place, and that seemed to be one of the popular things about the setting. The two of them have been copying each others left and right since the very beginning when Blizard was hired to make a warhammer game, and their agreement broke up.
