The domain omf.com has not been working for a couple of days now. Try either www.omf.com or www.omf.com/forum/ and you get linked directly to sedoparking for selling domains. Though for some reason http://forums.omf.com still works, if somewhat sporadically (people seem unable to login).

I sendt an email to Justin Oakley, asking if he knew anything about it, and he told me that Rob Elam have chosen to cease support for omf.com. The domain is stil registered until 08-27-2010 (mm/dd/yyyy), according to domain whois: http://whois.domaintools.com/omf.com

Soo... that marks the end of an era.

My question now is: What we going to do with the community ?

I am quite aware that there is quite little left of us, and that we're nowhere near as active as we used to be. But I would still like to be able to get in touch with you guys and girls every now and then.

The domain itself seems to be a lost cause. So no more omf.com I'm afraid. So another site ? Another forum ? Email-ring or whatever they are called ? There is also quite alot of archived forum messages and user profiles on this forum. Isn't at all tempted to loose all that.

Rob: You could have given us a *little* warning couldn't you ?

Now, considering alot of people have trouble getting these boards to work, and post etc. This is the first time they have worked for me in about 3 days. I think I'd like to establish some way for others to get hold of me if needed.

I'm also available at the forums on omf2097.com of corse (duuh) and I also made a thread about it there as well, just for safety: http://www.omf2097.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2211#2211

Would like to hear peoples opinions on this, and suggestions for how to keep in touch, and as to how we should deal with loosing the omf.com that has sort of been the rallying point of all this.

I've been registered here for 5 years now and only made one silly post, but it's still a forum I feel strongly for!

Hmm... Buying the domain and a forum for a year wouldn't be a huge monetary investment, perhaps we can take the responsibility of hosting this forum on our own shoulders?

EDIT: To mention, forums.omf.com redirects to omf.justinoakley.com. It would seem that someone out there is sympathetic to the cause and has already taken measures to prevent forum loss! I wonder who?

agreed.

I simply type the letter F in the address bar and forums.omf.com is the first to show Smile

well, now it will be:

omf.justinoakley.com

The forum is saved. But the domain may move on to other purposes.

Thank you Justin for all you have done, the internet would feel weird without the omf forums.

Well forums.omf.com still shows as the following for me:

Code:
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not get theme data for themes_id []

Is there a way to have it redirect here for the users who may not know to head over to omf.justinoakley.com? That or have it automatically redirect to the post explaining what has happened? Just a thought - not sure how much access you have to the domain, how much time is left before the domain goes down, or even if it is down already and my DNS hasn't caught up yet Smile

In any event, thanks very much for keeping the forums alive. Even though it isn't very active, it is still nice to drop by once in a while.

There's no way to have any forwards from the old omf.com domain. I'm planning a mass email to the remaining users to let them know the new URL of the message board. That's about the best that I can do though. I'm not sure how the forum.omf.com host is still active. But a lot of the database is taken down on that domain. And, if any posts are made over there, they will be lost forever.

I will see if there is any kind of forwarding I can do in the meantime, but dns records may not allow that to happen for too long.

EDIT:
I was able to forward forums.omf.com to the post I made in Game that explains that the omf.com domain is no longer supported. I can't guarantee how long this will be in place though. A mass email will still follow at some point. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hmmm. Well good that the forum is saved. Sucks that omf.com is gone. Bit of a jerk-move on Rob's part to just take the whole thing down and care nothing for the people that have idolized him as a god all these years. Razz
If he didn't have such a cool name, I'd probably call him all kinds of mean names!

Thanks for moving the forums to your site, Justin! Sad to see the omf.com domain go down, though. Sad

I know what you mean. But it will be able to be put to more use sometime in the future. It will be something completely different though. Sad

I'll keep the message board running as longs as I still have my name for a domain name. And I don't see giving that up.

I can't believe that hasn't been claimed by Taco Bell.

Probably because they're just Tex-Mex. Wink

haha. We'll see. Once the domain is in someone else's hands, I'll be sure to let you know. Not that you couldn't just check the domain on your own to see what it becomes.

Well, enjoy the newly migrated board.
