How about just plain believing that 80 core CPU is shere kick (ass) to the groin of the competition unless they come with a rebuttal?
Infact, whence Intel announced that they're going to take AMD head on and reclaim their market share, AMD's stocks made an instant steep decline.
Not that it means anything, lets face it - the stockmarket is a rumour-mill driven wagon of black-suited baboons, but still...

Of course, it has to be mentioned that the "cores" in the Intel prototype are in-order cores that make the SPE's in the Cell processor look rediculously complex in comparison. It seems oddly akin to something that I pointed out a while back as a joke to some of my computing friends about a "bubble core" system, using a veritable mass of cheap, very small processing units (the "bubbles" the name refers to) to come together to form one massive processor. Mind you, this is completely impractical for anyone outside of the scientific fields, who need the floating-point workstation and server power above all else, but it still is rather sweet tech. I wouldn't be surprised if Intel starts trying to market this to server and workstation makers as an alternative to Cell, although the fact that this new CPU is an entirely new instruction set (not x86, not PPC) might make it a hard sell to get software made for it (unless one wanted to run Linux on it, but I doubt Intel would market a CPU that their good friends in Redmond can't sell stuff for).
