TL;DR: Yes, it's yet another remake. Also, hello forum Smile

OpenOMF is supposed to be a faihful engine remake of the original OMF2097, with some bonus stuff like UDP network play and sprite scaling shaders etc. At the moment we've got a few active programmers doing stuff, and we've been getting relatively fast (though a bit jumpy) progress. More information about the team can be found at http://wiki.omf2097.com/doku.php?id=openomf.

The source code is written in C, and uses several libraries (OpenGL, OpenAL, SDL2, libConfuse). The source is divided into a library for reading the file formats (libShadowDive), our commandline datafile editor tools (omf2097-tools) and the remake itself (openomf). Source code can be found in our github repositories at https://github.com/omf2097.

At the moment, the most pressing issue are the missing parts in our documentation of the file formats, and help would be welcome in eg. reverse engineering the data files (detailled documentation here: http://wiki.omf2097.com/doku.php?id=openomf:omf2097_file_formats) and the One Must Fall master.dat main binary file (Dos4GW Linear Executable).

To contact us, either visit #omf @ irc.freenode.net or reply here Smile

Well that sort of put me in a tough spot, considering I had not really planned to go official with the wiki yet...

But considering you just did that, and then bullied me into actually working on filling out more stuff in it to boot, I guess that makes this as good as time as any.

Oh well, I have now officially announced that I have indeed setup a wiki for omf2097 on my website, and filled it with the usual generic information as well as anything else I had on my old website (making the website mostly redundant).

And the link is:

http://wiki.omf2097.com

And I should be adding that to my signature as well.

Also direct link to web applet for chatroom:

I already talk with you guys on the chat channel all the time, so I don't really have much to say here, but anyways. Good work! I personally love seing all the stuff you guys find out from the old files, and dig through and solve things that has been mysteries for omf'ers for years.

The latest piece of brilliance was how you guys (vulture, Vagabond and Katajakasa) finally figured out the hitbox equalent system that OMF uses. And I'm looking forward to when I can play around with that a bit more to observe some of those moves that has always surprised me in-game.

Keep up the good work, and make it playable so I can trash you over the net again!

Last I spoke to them, they had the basic controls, some workable jumping, and the death/win system working. But the controls, jumping physics, and entire AI etc will still need some fixing for various reasons. Like the complete lack of any kind of AI as far as I know.

But it certainly is something special when you're finally able to go into the arena, grab a HAR, and beat up the other one (even if he isn't defending himself) and watch the "you win!" on the screen.

And the Thorn just makes it awesome!

Edit: and if you wanna test stuff, drop by the chat channel! They keep updating the code all the frigging time these days!

I believe the Project leader did, blame him (I do!).

Proper per-pixel collision detection, with a debug mode:

Blue hit pixels are a complete miss, green are within the sprite dimensions and red are pixels that actually did a hit.

It also draws a 'ghost' of the sprite at the time the hit connected.

From what I've been lead to believe, it's Raptor. He's just trying to throw you off the trail.

Well, it is definitively not me! I haven't really done a darn thing except for hanging out in the chat-room and spew random obscenities at Vagabond.

And it is Katajakasa in case you do actually wonder!
