So I was watching/listening to the Unreal announcement on Twitch and maybe 5 minutes before they finished wrapping things up, one of the devs was talking about implementing fighting game mechanics into the game. In the discussion area what did I see? People making comments about OMF: 2097 and asking if they'll try to implement it in engine.
Why can't Rob see that people still love the property and help the community support it??? _________________ I'm not crazy, I'm sanity-challenged.

Funny :)
But except for the not releasing source code stuff, I think Rob is probably right about a whole lot of things when it comes to market analysis. He probably have more experience in the matter than we do.
And at this stage, OpenOMF is starting to look more and more playable every day, and at a certain stage that is going to take over the whole issue. I am kinda looking forward to having OpenOMF bundled for free on GOG and watching so many people play it, and wondering what Rob thinks about that. _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

I'm hoping that OpenOMF does the same - its great what they've built so far through reverse engineering 2097.
I just think the RPG aspects of 2097 should be built upon. ie players get X resources at the start of a round and can choose upgrades. Between rounds they can use their earnings to repair/upgrade. The HARs would be able to have modifiers applied, ie an activatable shield, means to disable the other player's projectiles for X seconds, etc. I'm really into mobas now and enjoy the customization you can get in them. _________________ I'm not crazy, I'm sanity-challenged.

I still think it's only a matter of time before somebody creates a 2097-like game in UE4, thereby likely making one of Rob's worst nightmares come true.
(That being said, the fact that WBIE has been using UE3 for their fighting games for a while now seems to indicate that it's come a long way in terms of supporting proper netcode for a melee combat game...) _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.
