Wow, that seems like a lot of money for government to prop up private industry, especially for no other reason than for national pride (I mean, the amount of money pales in comparison to how much the US government has spent to bail out the airline industry on numerous occasions, the only thing keeping me from taking further offense at this). It seems to be a case of Monsieur Chirac tilting at windmills, trying to leave some sort of a legacy for himself.
But I'm confused by one thing... if this is all for French national pride, why in the blazes are they partnering with German companies on just about everything? Seems like it'll be German innovation with a French face on it. But it might not all be bad... that hybrid diesel vehicle sounds interesting.
