I had a splendid night yesterday fighting TheMysticMaster in OMF2097 over dosbox until far into the morning hours. Using Dosbox and it's ipx tunnel buildt in software.
The game ran with less problems and less lag/slowness than what have been the standard before with programs like Kali, Zone, Khan etc.
So all of you Start installing Dosbox and give me a fight! I haven't had this much fun in years!
(On annother note, this completelly ruined the fun of playing SF4 for me...) _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

That sounds fun. Is that a recent thing with Dosbox? If not then I'm surprised it took you this long to give it a shot heh. _________________ Xaronth's System Specs

I've just been very innactive latelly. Heck until the game against TMM on Sunday, I had not touched the game in two years!
But that was so fun, that even the thought of picking up SF4 again now is just poo!
edit: On a semi related note, done some changes to my own forum, and been posting there abit about playing. Will try to write up a basic guide to getting omf running on ipx in dosbox eventually as well.

I haven't played OMF in over a year now, but I reckon that I could put up a decent fight. |

For now TMM has been nice enough to setup a ipx tunnel server for this purpose. This lets us bypass problems with directlly connecting thrugh firewalls, NATP etc.
In short, once you installed Dosbox, gotten OMF to run to your preference. Go to start menu and select the "DOSBox.conf", scroll all teh way to the bottom where it says:
And naturally change it to:
After that, start up dosbox, mount the harddrive, and get to where OMF is located. Then to activate the IPX tunnel, type:
If directlly connecting to someone then just replace with their IP address. After that you can just start OMF as usual with OMF.EXE, and go to network/multiplayer mode, and select IPX network.
After that it is standard Challenge Arena :)
If I am around on the net I can usually be found in the chat channel: #omf @ irc.freenode.net hook up with me there if you want a fight, someone else might give you a challenge as well! _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

When I get time I'll try it out, looks easy enough. This could totally revive OMF if it works out as well as it sounds. _________________ Xaronth's System Specs

Just tested it, and it worked here. Don't knwo what the problem is then, might have to try connectiong directlly up to someone else with a ipxnet server setup, with direct routing for the ip.
Xaronth: As for all OMf multiplayer online, it is slow. It has always been, and will always be the way the networking works in OMF. I've nicknamed it OMF GO! or OMF Chess. Simply no way to get it to run as fast as it does singleplayer, it more or less runs like it used to do on old 386SX25mhz with 4mb of ram.
Still fun though :)
You just have to get used to doing the moves a bit slower, and not just mash the buttons down. Also, that you can predict and be predicted far more. _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

if you guys want I can now run a more permanent IPX tunnel. I hacked up dosbox a bit to make a 'stand alone' one _________________ -----

Neat, I'd love to get in a couple of games again. Unfortunatelly my arms are messing up quite a bit, and keyboards are mostly a "no go" for me nowadays. So I don't know when I can play, or for how long.
I hate this entire RSI stuff, I'm getting lots better, and can even use a console controller for quite a while now, but keyboards still wreck me up.
I might have to *shudder* adapt to playing omf with a gamepad! _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |
