I have an expanded-capacity battery on this laptop, and get about three hours of battery life from completely pegging the system (h.264 video encoding), and about six hours for normal use. Not superlative, but it does okay. I'm rarely away from an outlet for extended periods of time when I'm using my laptop, so that amount of battery life is suitable.
If I need more battery life for everyday tasks... well, that's what the smartphone is for, right? _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

Speaking of smartphones, I will be pretty reluctant to buy another laptop due to the fact that I can do just about everything I need to from my phone. And I just like having raw power that a desktop provides me.
It sounds like you're having some pretty decent luck with your laptop though. So that's good. _________________ Justin Oakley

Yeah, it's serving me relatively well. But I agree with your point completely - I have had people ask me if I ever intend to buy a netbook, and I show them my phone... they say "that's not a netbook", to which I say "it's faster than your netbook" (yes, I do overclock my phone... it's running at about 1.85 GHz dual-core, and throttles down to 384 MHz to save battery when not in use).
Still a bit of a gadget hound, but between those two things that pretty much serves all my needs. (If the iPad 3 turns out to be as it is rumored, I may snag one of them, but that would be more as a media consumption device than as a computer replacement.) _________________ Official forum economist. Dual core phones, 6 hour laptop batteries, and cars that are tuned through a laptop. I'm feeling left behind. My phone is an old 500mhz HTC that's battery life is measured in minutes and my summer ride is tuned by twisting a knob on a carburetor.
Doing a little subject swapping, what kind of transportation do you two sport these days?
I made the mistake of buying a red Ford Focus a while back. Granted I love the car - I just wish I didn't have to contend with a dozen other red Focuses in every freaking parking lot. Two days ago I got a scratch in the door that looked like it was put there by a key. Today my own personal grapevine reveals to me it was put there because of a conflict over a woman. I was not involved. The key-er mistook my red Focus for a different red Focus. I am currently looking into rims and decals. _________________ "The unofficial first person to edit their sig since 2009! Possibly 2008."

I'm still driving the car you see pictured in my avatar. Though it's modified a bit more since then: 2001 MR2 Spyder. Too many mods to list and even my site that is mostly about my car is not up to date. haha. Though I have slowed down on the modifications lately. _________________ Justin Oakley

Driving an old wreck of a ford escort, its due to EU control this month, it won't pass. So it is going ot get wrecked. Waiting on my uncle fixing up a new car for me. So In a month or two I'll be getting a Toyota Carina 97 white, automatic gears again (finally!).
Also much cheaper than I had anticipated, about half of what I had expected. Which is nice, as I get to keep more of my savings. Will be my second car that I pay for in cash without any loans. :)
Also bought Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, only tried it a little bit, but so far disappointed over the combat, but the exploration part was very nice. Need to try it more to get a real opinion of it. _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

I take public transit, as the state of Michigan won't give me a driver's license over issues with my eyesight. They said that if I had a license, my vision's good enough to get it renewed - they just don't want to issue a new license to me.
Considering whether or not to get a moped, but I'm likely moving out of state in a couple of months - I'll try to get my license then. _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

I would consider laser eye surgery and whatever risks that ensues a much safer option than Kalamazoo during the summer on a moped. I ride around KZoo on my mid sized Honda (not a moped) once in a while to the local motorcycle dealerships and it scares the hell out of me. I bet I-94 is still under construction.

... Reminds me of my old Taurus. It probably wouldn't pass EU control either, but the US only requires that A) it runs and B) most but not all of it's lights work. Combine that with fuel standards that only require gasoline to be flammable and it's a miracle some of the cars on our roads function at all. I kind of hope your Escort does pass EU control - as hillbilly as it sounds I live in "Ford country" and am a little bias. _________________ "The unofficial first person to edit their sig since 2009! Construction finished up on I-94 in early November. But yeah, that was pretty frustrating in the interim.
Problem for me is that my vision can't be corrected by surgery. Damaged optic nerves can't be fixed with current medical technology. _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

I'll assure you, the Ford Escort won't pass.
It will be wrecked.
It has served it's duty, beyond what could be expected.
I only bought it because I needed a car fast when my old Mitsubishi Spacewagon (94, automatic gear, metalic silver) 's autogear box died on me, and it was impossible to get a new one (Well, we could buy it from the official store, but the cost was so beyond ridiculous it wasn't even funny. My uncle seriously asked them if it was plated in gold and diamonds.).
So it has served as a cheap set of wheel to get me back and forth to work for 1.5 years now, I expected it to last 1 year tops. Good deal. First car ever I paid out in cash, with no loan (because it was so cheap).
Granted, I'll be buying out the Toyota cash as well, but that is because I've been a good boy and saved up this time! _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

Smart move paying in cash. My brother and his girlfriend decided to get a small loan to buy the kind of car that's in such bad shape you only stop to look at it as a morbid curiosity. A mid '90s Pontiac Grand Prix. Long story short about every other week it's down for repairs, and the cost of those have doubled the price of the car in less than 6 months. It's not the repairs that get to them, it's the constant reminder that they are making payments on it. =p _________________ "The unofficial first person to edit their sig since 2009! Possibly 2008."

Not exactly game related, but did get my new car, and so far happy with it. Also did finally pick up a digital camera for first time today, so busy sitting trying to learn how to get lightning and zooming right in order to take pictures of small miniature figures. _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

Yeah... I've got an old point-and-shoot camera, but I rarely ever use it... maybe I should at least make sure if it still works. _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

I've probably listened to more jazz fusion and zeuhl in the last few days than can likely be considered sane by any human being. _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.
