New video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_cXORMMGqo
New stuff since the last video:
* Proper per-pixel collision detection
* Physics engine, (sort of)
* HAR colors
* Player/HAR select screens, for 1 & 2 player
* 'Recoil' support, so the other HAR plays the right animation when you hit him
* OSX support works again
* Health/endurance bars
* Scrap/Destruction works
* Better 'move filtering' so you can only execute moves while it is allowed (eg no standing Nova bellyflop)
* Lots of bugfixes
Still lots to do, but it is actually looking more like a real game now.

All I could think while watching: "a little randomization of the direction of the scrap would help." _________________ I wish I still had some jag rolls |

Mmmhh. Maybe later. Need to come with believable physics for everything first |

Just popping in to say, I approve of this. Very much so. Glad I found it. And to think my OMF research spree started with an announcement of Tekken Revolution, where someone made the claim that it was the first full-blown fighting game to include a “character training system.”. The nerve of them! I just had to point out the degree of customisation available in Tournament mode in a game released in 1994. And then somehow it led me to finding a video of OpenOMF. At first I thought it was one of the many unfortunately aborted OMF remakes begun over the years, but then I saw the upload date... and it was recent. I'll treat it with... a cautious hope. But seriously, please make this succeed!
And now I'll probably disappear for another six months... But I'll be watching. _________________ Give me the fortune, keep the fame. |

I do find it amusing, however, that it's taken the major fighting game devs two decades to catch up with OMF 2097's defining feature. _________________ Official forum economist. Explodes when thrown.

What ? Fun combat ? Good controls ? Yeah I know you mean the character upgrade system. It is part of the trend these last bunch of years where *everything* and their grandma must be able to level up, or people ignore the game. I mean you're leveling up in call of duty...
I think the entire thing is getting blown so much out of proportions it is crazy. But it does really fall in taste with many gamers (I'd even go as far as to say casuals, but I'd probably be flamed straight out of the board, if there was anyone left to flame me).
Well naturally the visual aspect of becoming better with time is enticing, I just personally hate this aspect of it, as the game gives you a reward for just playing it X amount of time, and gives you a "boost" reward faking that you get better.
For all practical purposes, a level-up = Set difficulty to one easier. This is naturally put into consideration when they make the game (well most of them), so most typical crpg games ends up a race against difficulty sliders, where you have to keep your current level of difficulty to match the general difficulty slider of the enemies. This is especially boring in cases where each level up only gives statistical boosts (Yay I got +5 damage, and now all enemies just got one level harder, so they got +2 to all stats, so they get +2 damage against me and +2 armor so I deal 2 less damage against them, still a net gain of +1!).
This, becomes rather weird when added to a game that supposedly rewards player skill, as levels doesn't reward player skill at all. So why fighting games and fps games have level-like systems is quite beyond me.
And before people wave around some good examples etc, I do like some of the level-like systems, especially those that avoid just blanket stat boosts, and rather give you additional options. I could give a couple of good examples, but most wouldn't have heard of them.
One that I really liked that people might have heard of is Metroid, most "power-ups" you find adds a permanent ability to your suit, most of these adds a new ability or weapon system, or upgrades an existing system. Example: Missle gives you a new attack form with limited ammo, picking up more Missle upgrades afterwards increases max ammo. Wave Beam upgrade modifies your normal shots to go through walls and blocks. Morph Ball lets you do a new move.
To make an example of one that I hated was Diablo 1, where all you got at level up was a bunch of points to dump into increasing your stats with. And you had to upgrade stats to use equipment and tomes, and then more stats for higher level items etc.
Ehr, rant off! _________________ - Jon Eirik * www.omf2097.com * www.omf2097.com/wiki * https://discord.gg/sT8YU2E <- OMF Discord |

Reason why openomf is progressing slowly, and why we picked C as the language.

Amazing stuff people. Looking forward to this immensely.
On a side note, no loading time between selecting arena and gameplay kicking in - that's pretty slick. I'll miss the loading bar _________________ -=Blaze Your Trail=-
