Well I see people still post here every now and then and I don't know where else to ask so I'll ask it here: What's the best way to get OMF:BG multiplayer going in 2021?

I really love this game and how unusual it is and I'd really like to play it again. Alas I am having the darndest time getting the full version to work and have only been able to run the demo albeit without a functional escape key so I can't add exit modes or add bots.

I *REALLY* want to introduce this game to friends but I don't know how. I swear the last time I tried to install and run it off disc it wouldn't launch because it couldn't connect to the servers. I've grabbed multiple copies off of abandonware sites and they all seem to be ISOs (before you say anything, I did buy the game back when it came out and two more times once the price dropped to give to friends) so that would still require a server check-in as well as installing a CD emulator thing (and I swear the last time I did that it went HORRIBLY wrong so I am wary). I've found a launcher which looks like it will let me connect to other players directly via IP address but I'm still at the mercy of trying to run the core game.

Although can the Demo actually be played online? I think me and my friends could at least make due with a couple of Pyros, Forces, and Jaguars.

What's more, I stumbled across the thread about using DXWND to run the game but alas the interface and options have changed DRASTICALLY since that guide was written and all attempts to run OMFBG through DXWND just results in Viewport initialization failures.

So if anyone had a good idea of how to get this running on a Windows 10 machine with a functional Escape key so I can access menus and online play, I'd love to hear it.

And yes I'd buy the crap out of this on GOG or Steam or anything that makes all of this hassle and GameSpy free. I *REALLY* like OMF:BG's weirdness.

...and...do we have a Discord?
